THE CREATION -- IN THE BEGINNING --- PART III

10,000-BC - Noah’s Flood:

Stereotypical view of Noah’s Flood

For reasons what will be become self-evident for Antique Cannabis collectors, the story of Noah’s flood holds great deal of interest.   Questions such as:

Did the God create Cannabis before or only after the flood?
Was the Flood a local or a world-wide calamity?
Did Noah’s ark carry Hemp seeds, or Medical Cannabis itself?
Did Noah (the man) use Medical Cannabis?
Obviously the answers to “ALL” of these questions will effect the world of Antiques Cannabis medicines, as we know it today.   So maybe it would be best to go over the story, or better yet, let’s start out with the fable surrounding the story --- it usually goes something as follows:
NOAH'S FLOOD, THE MYTH:
About a thousand years or so after Adam & Eve, their descendents had increased in numbers significantly and were spread out throughout the earth.   But the human race, having been born of original sin, had turned away from God and towards wickedness.   So much so that God (here always portrayed as a longhaired thunderer) was so full of sorrow that he came to regret ever having created them in the first place.

Only Noah found favor in his sight.   Therefore God came down and informing him of the upcoming flood, instructed him to build an ark; one large enough for him, his extended family, and two of every kind of animal on earth to survive in. etc., etc.
OK, so much for the fairytale, now here's what really happened.[8]   But please be warned: if there is one thing that we have all learned from our modern-day Drug Police; it is that you don’t always have to tell a complete lie, to actually lie.   Sometimes only telling selective parts of the truth is enough.   Let us use the following from Genesis 6:3 (which takes place at about the time of the flood), as a good example:
“And the LORD said, my spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years” --- Genesis 6:3
If this verse was all the information that you were given, all that you were told; It would be very easy to be mislead by someone into thinking that somehow the human race had done something to made the God angry.   And in retaliation, the God was now putting a limit on our life spends, etc.

However, let's use a little Logic and Reason: How many people out there do you know of that live to be a hundred and twenty years of age?   Probably not very many, so is this an untruthful statement?   Is the Bible lying to us?   Well let’s look at the facts, all the facts --- let’s look at those verses, just before and just after verse 6.3.
“And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,” --- Genesis 6:1
“That the sons of God saw the daughters of men [and] that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose” --- Genesis 6.2
“And the LORD said, my spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.” --- Genesis 6.3
“There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” --- Genesis 6.4
In other words, the Bible wasn’t even talking about modern day humans, but about some other forms of half angel-demon, half humans that walked about in those days.

Point being made: Take what you’ve heard (what the narcs have been telling you) about Cannabis and the Holy Bible and throw it in the trash can.   Instead use logic and reason, always seek to obtain, ALL THE FACTS, and look directly at what the holy scriptures themselves have to say, not what someone is saying that they say.

Noah’s Flood -- The Actual Story:

Stereotypical view of Noah’s Flood

Ok, now that we got that warning out of the way, lets get back to Noah’s flood and what actually happened, or at least the way the author understands it.

According to the books of Genesis and Enoch,[9] some 1,500 years after Adam & Eve, their children along with the other human children (created earlier):
“And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful daughters.   And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: 'Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men and beget us children.” --- [Enoch 6.1-6.3]
But oddly enough the book of Enoch then goes on to say that instead of simply forcing their way in (these are powerful angels after all), they used their advanced knowledge (or technology if you will) to “charm” or beguile the human population.   I guess one could call it a technology for nooky, nooky exchange:
“and they taught them charms and enchantments, and the cutting of roots, and made them acquainted with plants. . . . . And taught men to make swords, and knives, and shields, and breastplates, and made known to them the metals (of the earth) and the art of working them, and bracelets, and ornaments, and the use of antimony, and the beautifying of the eyelids, and all kinds of costly stones, and all coloring tinctures. . . . [and the angles taught them] enchantments, and rootcuttings, the resolving of enchantments, astrology, the constellations, the knowledge of the clouds, the signs of the earth, the signs of the sun, and the course of the moon.” --- [selected sections Enoch 7.2 - 8.5]
I suppose here my Libertarian friends would say, “so what!” Everything was consensual with no force or fraud involved etc., etc.   In addition, note the words, “made them acquainted with plants . . tinctures . . root-cuttings,” hey this sure sounds a lot like the beginnings of herbal medicines etc.

However, these Angels, unlike Permithious (of Greek mythology, who brought fire down from the heavens for the benefit of the human race), seem to have been a bit careless about things.   The book of Enoch than goes on to state:
“And all the others together with them took unto themselves wives, and each chose for himself one, and they began to go in unto them and to defile themselves with them, . . . And they became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed all the acquisitions of men.   And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood.   Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.” ---- [selected sections Enoch 7.1 - 7.6]
If this is true, than earth at that time and place must have been one hell of a place - literally, no wonder mass human migrations seem to all start at about this period of time.   In the words of the arch Angel Gabriel:
“[the angels] to whom Thou hast given authority to bear rule over his associates.   And they have gone to the daughters of men upon the earth, and have slept with the women, and have defiled themselves, and revealed to them all kinds of sins.   And the women have borne giants, and the whole earth has thereby been filled with blood and unrighteousness.   And now, behold, the souls of those who have died are crying and making their suit to the gates of heaven” --- [Enoch 9.8 - 9.10]
The situation got so bad that the God herself finally had to step in.
“And the God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” ---[Genesis 6.5]
“And it repented the LORD that She had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.” ---[Genesis 6.6]
And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, . . . for it repenteth me that I have made them. ---[Genesis 6.7]
It is at this point that the story of Noah’s flood now comes into begin:

“But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD . . [for] . . Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God. . . And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
"Make thee an ark . . . [for] . . I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, . . . But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons' wives with thee.. . . And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female.” ---[Selected sections Genesis 6.8 -to- 6.19]
STOP: At this point, maybe it would be best to go over one of our questions: Was Cannabis in existence BEFORE or did it come into existence only AFTER the flood?

Once more, without any proof, the author is of the opinion that the use of Medical Cannabis was already well established on earth --- Long before the flood.   My reasoning is as follows:

As noted elsewhere - While Angels themselves seem to have no need for medicines, humans most assuredly would have.   I myself would find it inconceivable that a kind and loving God would not have made arrangements of some kind for medical herbs.

Nowhere in the Old Testament, nor in any other of the Holy Scriptures, is any mention made of any kind of new creation during this time frame or thereafter.   Only the Hindu Vedas claim that any kind of creation, but are very sketchy about the exact time frames.

Thus the answer, at least if you’re a practicing Christian, is obvious. Now returning to the story.
“And Noah did according unto all that the LORD commanded him.” --- [Genesis 7.5]
a.k.a., he built the ark . . . I hate to do this but for the sake of moving the story along a little, and keeping it short.   Some rain follows (about 40 days and 40 nights), plus about another hundred or so days of bobbing in the water. After which . . . :
“And the waters decreased continually until the tenth month: in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, were the tops of the mountains seen.” ---[Genesis 8.5]
And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. ---[Genesis 8.13]
STOP: This is a good place to address yet another one of our questions: Was the Flood a local; or a worldwide calamity?

Noah’s Flood -- The After Effects:

AFTER THE FLOOD
(First archeological evidence of modern day civilization now begins)

The story of Noah’s flood is of great interest to us for several reasons. Assuming that one believes that the story is true.   For antique cannabis collectors the story of Noah’s flood interests us for several reasons.   First, if true, through biblical references, we can date it to around 11,000 to 8,000 BC, [10] which would put it at about the same time as the end of the last great ice age.   And/or at about the same time that we begin to see archeological evidence of modern day civilizations as we know them.

Chronological TIME --- An Aside:

It is also interesting to note that according to one well known historian the late J. Bronowski:
“The largest single step in the ascent of man is the change from nomad to village agriculture.   What made that possible? An act of will by men surely; but with that, a strange and secret act of nature. . . .Before 8000 BC wheat was not the luxuriant plant it is today; [but] merely one of many wild grasses that spread throughout the Middle East. By some genetic accident, the wild wheat crossed with a natural goat grass and formed a fertile hybrid. That accident must have happened many times in the springing vegetation that came up after the last Ice Age.” ---"The Ascent of Men" by J. Bronowski
All this translates into the following:
  • [A]- Before 8000 BC, agriculture was impossible, because the crops simply were NOT there to plant.
  • [B]- That after that --- through an act of nature or Angel magic --- agriculture now became possible.

Hum!   Probably just an accident, but in either case, note that this all fits in with our given time-line.

  • But was the flood only a local event or a world wide calamity that destroyed all that was before it?   The bible doesn’t really say or can be interpreted either way. Example:
“And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.” --- [Genesis 6.17]
But note that the Bible isn’t that clear about exactly what “Under Heaven” means.   Literally, it can mean almost anything, and I’ve got a feeling that the God moved her house sometime after that (I know I would).

This author for one, is of the opinion that the flood HAD TO HAVE BEEN solely a localized (maybe a continent or two in size) affair, and for the following reasons.

  • The altitude factor:   Lets look at what the Bible says about the water levels:
“And the flood was forty days upon the earth; and the waters increased, and bare up the ark, and it was lift up above the earth.” --- [Genesis 7.17]
“And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.” --- [Genesis 7.19]
“Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.” --- [Genesis 7.20]
“And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.” --- [Genesis 8.4]
Lets put all of this into perspective: Just about everyone including the Hindu Vedas agree that Hemp (the Cannabis plant) was first found somewhere around the Himalayas which reach a height of 29,000 feet above sea level.   On the other hand, the mountains of Ararat (part of Turkish occupied Armenia today) only rise to a height of 13,000 feet or half that of the Himalayas.   Yet, the bible states “fifteen cubits [11] upward did the waters prevail,” implying Ararat as a reference point.

  • The racial diversity of the human family:   The Book of Genesis, clearly states that ALL within Noah’s ark were family members, implying one racial group.   Even if Noah “beget” his children via different wives, and/or that each of Noah’s male children had wives of different races; still, their children would have had to have married among themselves. Thus the racial diversity of today’s human family would have been all but impossible to have achieved.   Evolution just doesn’t work that way or that fast.

  • The Dove and the Olive Leaf Factor:   Once more the Holy Scriptures are somewhat sketchy on the subject and it is possible to interpret them in differently ways, but here are the facts the way I see them: According to Genesis (8.8 to 8.11): After some unit of time . . .

“Noah sent out a dove from his ark that came back to him that evening with an olive leaf in her mouth . . . which symbolized dry land.”

OK, if the flood were not a localized event, where did the olive tree come from?   According to Genesis 7.24: “And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days” Which is a long time --- no way a tree would have survived that long underwater.[12]

Additionally, while the holy scriptures are sketchy about a number of things, there is one thing that they are very clear on -- no new creations occurred after the flood.   Any such event of this importance, especially given the time period, would have given mentioned.   Thus we can safely assume that no such creation occurred.

The number of examples/reasons why I feel that the flood was a localized one, can go one and on, and while true many biblical verses can be interpreted as meaning “ALL THE EARTH,” many others can be interpreted to justify my position on the matter.   Take for example, Genesis 8.14, which reads:
“And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried.” ---[Genesis 8.14]
Well, is ALL the earth dry? What about the Great Lakes, or the Atlantic Ocean?   Obviously, this verse can only be interpreted as meaning --- The local area and only the local area was dry.

But be that as it may, in either case the question now is: “Did Noah’s Ark carry Hemp seeds, or Medical Cannabis itself?   According to the Bible:
“And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.” --- [Genesis 6.21]
“Of fowls after their kind, and of cattle after their kind, of every creeping thing of the earth after his kind, two of every sort shall come unto thee, to keep them alive.” --- [Genesis 7.20]
Which while not actually stating so, would imply that Yes, Noah’s ark did carry hemp seeds, if for no other reason than as bird feed.

Next question, “Did Noah (the man) use Medical Cannabis?

The bible doesn’t really say, but the answer seems to be NO.   According to the Bible, one of the first things that Noah (no fool he) who had taken grape seeds with him on the ark, did after landing on dry land was:
And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; ---[Genesis 9.20-9.21]
In other words, he got drunk.   Somehow, I don’t think that this is the kind of man who would have made use of Medical Cannabis solely for recreational purposes.   Thank God, he didn’t have a driver's license!

    AFTER NOAH:
THE END OF SPECULATION; The beginning of Archeology:

    The beginnings of recorded History

Admittedly, up until this point in our history of Cannabis, we have been forced to rely on (what one might term) religious speculation, as opposed to solid concrete archeological facts.   But where else were we supposed to turn to?   The Jewish bible and the Hindu Vedas, ARE the oldest of known historical writings --- There simply is nothing older.

Remembering some of our original questions:
  • Where exactly did the Medical Cannabis plant come from?
  • Just what was its exact origin?
  • Exactly how old is this plant?

Again, where else are we supposed to look for the answers?

However, after this point, we start dealing with pre-recorded human history and the beginnings of recorded history - [Egyptian, Chinese etc.,].   But, before leaving the domain of religion, there is one more question that needs to be asked and answered:
Why does a kind a loving God, allow pain and suffering?   Or better yet, why is there a need for Medical Cannabis in the first place?
This very question brings some to believe that maybe the God is just sitting back somewhere (presumably drinking a beer and for the sheer joy of it, looking down on the entertainment below), but I myself have come to a different conclusion.

I’ve asked this question numerous times myself, with Roman Catholic Cardinal Fulton Sheen (at least in my mind) coming up with what I consider an acceptable answer.   I forgot his actual worlds, but it was something like:
When the God was creating the universe, She had a choice, She could have created a perfect world of perfect chemical elements.   A world without pain or suffering, one in which the grass automatically and chemically bends itself just before a rabbit steps on it.   Where everything has long ago, been pre-ordained, and ones every action pre-calculated.   A world of perfect chemistry, but instead, She chose to create a world where humans were given the power of free choice.
While, I personally do not like this answer, what really are the alternatives?   And granted, there are some out there that seem to have no problems with walking zombies, I myself love the idea of Free-will, and would not have it any other way.

    FOOTNOTES:
[8] - To this day, I wonder why people still believe in the fairytales? And why don’t they just read the book and find out what really happened.
[9] - The book of Enoch is part of what is termed the Apocrypha or “the lost books” of the Christian Bible. Many Christian sects do NOT recognize its divine inspiration, but than again many others do.
[10] -- There are those that date the Flood to around 4,000 BC, but I can’t for the love of me, figure out how they get this figures.
[11] - According to someone on the Internet, a Cubit is between 17” to 22” long.
[12] - Again, there are numerous ways of interpreting what the bible says on this matter, but my point is simple, it would not have been possible for any fresh water plant to have survived very long underwater.
