ADDENDUM B RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CRIME AND MARIHUANA MARIJUANA CASE SUMMARIES LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT PETER J. PITCHESS, SHERIFF SEPTEMBER, 1967 FROM THE FILES OF THE L.A.P.D. The following is part (complete report was never published) showing the relationship between the use of Marihuana and crime. At the time it was touted as proof that Marihuana was an instigator of and the cause of violent crime. We will let the reader determine that for themselves, it is presented here solely as proof that the L.A.P.D. has a history of none objective-ability on the subject. Historical Note: For those historians out there, note the date of the study. This may be one of the last of the Reefer Madness studies conducted throughout the whole disinformation campaign. ===================================================== CASE #1 2-16-67 File# 4R 4717 EVIDENCE SEIZED: None DETAILS: Deputies were called to investigate a violent and boisterous person. Deputies observed suspect to be cut and bleeding about the left ankle and hands. This happened when the suspect kicked the rear window from his own vehicle. He was shouting that he was going to get even with and kill a certain person. He was cursing in the presence of women and small children. While being booked for intoxication, suspect stated, "I have been smoking weed all day". ===================================================== CASE #2 8-12-63 File# Z 931 784 EVIDENCE HELD: Two ounces of marijuana DETAILS: Two young- females at a bus stop were offered a ride home by two unknown males. They were driven to a dark spot where the males began attacking them. One female escaped and went for help. The other girl was raped. Investigating officers arrived at the scene and both suspects ran. When approached by deputies they began fighting. A search of their persons revealed that each possessed a small bag of marijuana. Both admitted smoking marijuana just prior to the crime. The case was dismissed because the trial judge held the officers should have waited to search the suspects until they were in the police station. ===================================================== CASE #3 10-2-64 File # Y 062 655 EVIDENCE HELD: Fragments of marijuana taken from a shirt pocket. DETAILS: Two young females accepted dates with two males. They were subsequently drugged with marijuana and dangerous drugs. While under the influence they were raped by seven different males, photographed nude, robbed and participated in acts of oral copulation. The following day they were told by one of the suspects that they were “gang banged” and if they went to the police he would kill them or had a friend who would kill them. Three persons were arrested in connection with this crime, and one of them was in possession of marijuana. ===================================================== CASE #4 1-14-65 File # Y 094 802 EVIDENCE HELD: One ounce of marijuana and two marijuana cigarettes DETAILS: Five persons entered a home where a party was in progress. One was carrying a “tire iron”, When asked to leave, a fight started and several persons were injured and bleeding. there was talk about getting guns and killing one another. Three persons were subsequently arrested and one ounce of marijuana was found in their vehicle. During booking procedures two marijuana cigarettes were found in the shirt pocket of the owner of the vehicle. ===================================================== CASE #5 10-29-65 File # Y 193 296 EVIDENCE SEIZED: HELD: Three partially burnt marijuana cigarettes DETAILS: A young 18 year old boy came home in an apparent drunken condition, proceeded into the bathroom and fainted. While being revived by his parents he became violent and it was necessary to physically restrain him. The parents found three marijuana cigarettes in his pants pocket. He told the investigating officers that he bought the marijuana cigarettes' on a corner and that when he got out of jail he was going to kill his parents. ===================================================== CASE #6 3-10-66 File # Y 240 234 EVIDENCE HELD: 1/2 kilo of marijuana (1 pound); small bags of marijuana ; 750 Nembutal capsules ; 150 Dexadrine Spansules ; 3 marijuana cigarettes ; One .22 caliber automatic pistol DETAILS: After several purchases of marijuana by Sheriff’s Deputies along with State agents, a search warrant was obtained for the search of the suspect and his residence. The officers knocked on the door and it was opened and then slammed shut by the suspect. The officers then forced entry and observed suspect holding a .22 caliber automatic pistol which he placed to his head and fatally shot himself. There were three other male persons in the kitchen at location who told officers that they were only at location drinking beer. ===================================================== CASE #7 3-10-66 File # Y 240 571 EVIDENCE SEIZED: 4 marijuana cigarettes DETAILS: A 17 year old boy was called into the school office for violating school rules. He refused to cooperate and became violent. During the struggle, fourteen marijuana cigarettes fell from his shirt pocket. Subject stated he found the marijuana cigarettes in the school restroom. ===================================================== CASE #8 3-17-66 File # Y 242 827 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette DETAILS: The California Highway Patrol Officers stopped to talk to hitchhiker. They observed a 14" screwdriver in his waistband which they removed. He also had one hand under his jacket which he was asked to remove. Upon doing so, he swung at the officers striking one in the head. While he was being booked on the assault charges, a marijuana cigarette was found in a cigarette package in his shirt pocket. The suspect had all symptoms of being intoxicated. There was no alcoholic odor on his breath. ===================================================== CASE #9 3-24-66 File # Y 245 629 EVIDENCE SEIZED: A white paper bag containing one ounce of marijuana ; Two partially smoked marijuana cigarettes DETAILS: Two suspects in a vehicle weaving across double white lines and from side to side of highway were stopped by California Highway Patrol. As officers approached the vehicle they detected odor of marijuana. A subsequent search revealed marijuana on both suspects and on the seat of the vehicle. When the Sheriff's Deputies found the marijuana, one suspect stated, "They've got us!" ===================================================== CASE #10 3-26-66 File # Y 245 709 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Three marijuana cigarettes, one partially smoked. DETAILS: Officers observed two male suspects in a vehicle which was weaving free lane to lane. When the officers stopped the vehicle, the passenger threw the cigarettes out the window. An odor of burning marijuana was detected inside the vehicle. Both suspects appeared "groggy" and dazed. ===================================================== CASE #11 4-9-66 File # Y 251 192 EVIDENCE SEIZED: 9 Marijuana cigarettes ; Coffee cup 1/2 full of marijuana ; A plastic vial containing marijuana ; 6 balloons containing heroin DETAILS: A 19 year old boy and a 16 year old girl admitted to the use of marijuana for over one year. The female stated that the male furnished her with marijuana on several occasions. Letters were found that they had participated in intercourse. At the time of their arrest, the male became combative toward the officers. ===================================================== CASE #12 9-3-66 File # Y 302 740 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette DETAILS: A boyfriend and three companions came to a young lady's home at 1:30 A.M. After inside, they began rolling and smoking marijuana cigarettes. When she protested one of them began beating her head and shoulders and dragged her out on the front porch. Marijuana was found in one of the suspect's shirt pocket. ===================================================== CASE #13 10-7-66 File # Y 315 809 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Three small packets of marijuana ; One .38 caliber revolver DETAILS: Investigating officers were called to a bar regarding a complaint that suspect was smoking marijuana. His eyes were very dilated and failed to react to light. Found in his car were a gun and ammunition. After the suspect was booked he sat and mumbled to himself incoherently for two hours. ===================================================== CASE #-14 10-8-66 File # Y316 512 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One envelope containing marijuana (1/4 of a gram) DETAILS: A sixteen and seventeen year old boy were acting suspiciously in a parking lot. Their vehicle was approached by investigating officers. Both boys were intoxicated and marijuana was found in their car. When the officers attempted to handcuff one of them he struck one deputy in the head and the other in the chest. ===================================================== CASE #15 12-5-66 File # Y336 744 EVIDENCE HELD: 2 1/2 ounces of marijuana ; One partially smoked marijuana cigarette ; 65 Amphetamine sulphate tablets ; One double edged axe ; Three rifles DETAILS: Sheriffs Deputies were assisting a Parole Officer who had received complaints from suspect Wife that he was chopping up the furniture at location. Upon Officers entering location, suspect ran to the toilet and attempted to get rid of the evidence. He admitted that the narcotics were his, that he was not working and had several items of new clothing, guns, and acetylene torch equipment for which he could offer no explanation. ===================================================== CASE #16 12-6-66 File # Y 337 876 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One partially smoked marijuana cigarette DETAILS: Four men were disturbing the peace in a small bar. Then asked to leave, they made threats toward employees and patrons. A fight ensued, rocks, broken bottles, and pool cues were used as weapons by the suspects. Some of the patrons were injured. One suspect, while being booked, was found to have a partially smoked a marijuana cigarette in his shirt pocket. Investigating officers observed that suspects were “Glossy eyed” and their pupils were dilated. ===================================================== CASE #17 12-19-66 File # Y 342 930 EVIDENCE HELD: A cigar box containing marijuana seven, ; Amphetamine tablets DETAILS: The suspect was apparently under the influence of drugs or marijuana and chased his wife with a butcher knife through their apartment. When she attempted to leave with their two small children he violently shoved her, causing her to drop the children. He also said, "I'll kill you if you call the police"". When investigating officers arrived, the suspect attacked one of the officers, slugging and kicking him, causing injury. He yelled at the officer that he would kill him, his wife and kids when this was all over. After the suspect’s court hearing he told the officers that the marijuana was his and that he took it from a plant which he had grown, further that on the morning of his arrest he took two caps of L.S.D. and eight caps of Seconal, and said he couldn’t remember anything that happened. The officer sustained a sprained shoulder and elbow. ===================================================== CASE #18 12-24-66 File # Y 345 069 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Ono partially smoked marijuana cigarette DETAILS: One 18 year old and two 17 year old boys were attempting to rob a citizen walking on the street. They fled when pursued by bystanders. When caught, they beat one person with a "car jack" and kicked him about the face and body, then continued running, and fled in a vehicle. When apprehended by officers, the bloody jack, bloody handkerchief, and marijuana cigarette were found in the vehicle. ===================================================== CASE #19 1-29-67 File # Y 358 127 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Two partially smoked marijuana cigarettes ; One barbiturate tablet and one Amphetamine tablet DETAILS: Suspect was shot in the leg while holding up a cocktail bar, then fled. When apprehended by investigating officers, two partially smoked marijuana cigarettes, one barbiturate tablet, and one Amphetamine tablet were .found in his vehicle. The blood stained clothes with a bullet hole were found in his home. ===================================================== CASE #20 1-31-67 File # Y 359 010 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Small plastic vial containing marijuana ; Narcotic paraphernalia ; Five Seconal capsules DETAILS: While investigating reports of a gun shot, officers, upon entering the apartment, observed the marijuana. A subsequent search revealed dangerous drugs and narcotic paraphernalia. While at location with one suspect, a second suspect came into location, staggering, with pin-point pupils. Further investigation disclosed that a third suspect shot at suspect one because of money owed as a result of a narcotic transaction. ===================================================== CASE #21 1-31-67 File # Y 359 120 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette; 20 Amphetamine tablets ; Three loaded hand guns DETAILS: Three suspects purchased guns with the intention of committing robberies. They robbed a bar, were pursued, and subsequently apprehended. One suspect was found behind a car pointing a loaded gun at 'the officer. He did not shoot but fought violently with deputies. Another suspect was found hiding in some bushes. A marijuana cigarette was found in the shirt pocket of one of the suspects while being booked. While arresting the third suspect at his apartment, the odor of smoked marijuana was detected and twenty Amphetamine tablets were found. Suspect admitted to being a heroin addict and a parole violator. ===================================================== CASE #22 1-31-67 File # Y 359 379 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Three ounces of marijuana ; Paper bindle containing heroin ; One .32 caliber hand gun DETAILS: California Highway Patrol officers stopped a vehicle for weaving back and forth on the highway. Just as the vehicle came to a stop, the passenger put his arm out the window and dropped a brown paper sack containing a gun, marijuana, and heroin. ===================================================== CASE #'23 2-16-67 File # Y 365 966 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Two marijuana cigarettes (one partially smoked) DETAILS: A 20 year old boy and his 14 year old girlfriend planned a burglary in which he was going to steal some auto parts and she was going to be the lookout. They were both apprehended at the scene of the crime. The fourteen year old girl had the marijuana cigarettes in her possession. She admitted using marijuana, L. S. D., and dangerous drugs for the past one and a half years. ===================================================== CASE #24 2-19-67 File # Y 366 123 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One partially smoked marijuana cigarette DETAILS: Seven strangers walked into the home of a 41 year old woman. They were asked to leave, at which time five of them left, walked around her yard, and upon her roof. The other two walked across a freshly painted floor and into the front room and sat down. One of them stated that the house belonged to his father and his father was in heaven. A partially smoked marijuana cigarette was found on one of the suspects. ===================================================== CASE #25 2-17-67 File # Y 366 658 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana DETAILS: A 17 and 18 year old boy were arrested driving a stolen car. A bag of marijuana was found in the 17 year old's underclothing. ===================================================== CASE #26 2-20-67 File # Y 367 012 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Bag of marijuana (one ounce) ; Sawed off .12 gauge shotgun and ammunition ; .32 caliber automatic, loaded with ammunition. DETAILS: An anonymous person reported to the Sheriff’s Office that wo(sic) persons were selling narcotics from a car behind an apartment building. Investigating officers dispatched to the scene detected the odor of marijuana coming from within the car. One suspect was observed to stagger when getting out of the vehicle. Both subjects had dilated pupils and one of them said that they had just finished smoking a marijuana cigarette. A search revealed a partially smoked marijuana cigarette in the jacket pocket of the subjects. When it was found, the subject stated, “Oh, no! They found it”. The subject who owned the vehicle stated that the guns belonged to a friend. ===================================================== CASE #27 2-22-67 File # Y 366 345 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana ; .25 caliber automatic pistol DETAILS: Three subjects were driving in a vehicle while smoking marijuana. One subject, a 15 year old boy after getting out of the car was unable to stand without assistance. His speech was slurred and the pupils of his eyes were dilated. A strong odor of burning marijuana was detected in the vehicle. The marijuana was found in the jacket pocket of the 15 year old boy. The driver of the vehicle, an 18 year old boy, stared, “Oh no! He found it!” The other two subjects had dilated pupils. Also found in the vehicle were a .25 caliber automatic pistol, meat clever, chrome wheels, new pool cue, and two new sweaters. The subjects could not produce receipts nor could they describe the articles. They admitted smoking the marijuana while riding in the vehicle. ===================================================== CASE #28 2-24-67 File # Y 368 435 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana ; .25 caliber automatic pistol DETAILS: Detectives with warrants charging robbery arrested two persons. Found in the house with a -loaded .25 caliber automatic was one ounce of marijuana . One suspect admitted she took the marijuana from under chair [ ] placed it under the mattress when she saw detectives arrive at location. ===================================================== CASE #29 2-2/0-/07 File # Y 369 524 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Plastic vial containing marijuana DETAILS Two boys, one 18 years old, the other 16, were apprehended in the act of committing a burglary. The sixteen year old boy was on probation for burglary. Marijuana was found scattered throughout their vehicle. ===================================================== CASE #30 3-4-67 File # Y 372 389 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Marijuana seeds and debris ; 116 Amphetamine tablets DETAILS : Two California Highway Patrol Officers stopped a vehicle with three suspects. The driver got out of vehicle and struck one of the officers. He was arrested and subsequent search revealed the above evidence. ===================================================== CASE # 31 3-10-67 File # Y 373 925 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Partially smoked marijuana cigarette DETAILS: A suspect, 30 years old, with an extensive criminal record dating back to 1952, was involved in a disturbance with his mother and brother. The mother was reluctant to have him arrested, but before he left he stated to his mother, “Look, Bitch, I’m coming back and I’m going to stomp you.” Later on that night, he returned to location and broke down the back door. He then began shouting murderous threats toward his mother and brother. The mother attempted to run from location. the suspect chased her and upon catching her knocked her to the pavement with his fists, dragged her by her hair back to the house. He then broke two or three vases over her head, continued to beat her with his fists and kicked her about the body. He then dragged her down a hall and smashed her face into a mirror, then picked her up and threw her on her bed. He took a 20” telescope and beat her about the head and face. He then proceeded to the kitchen and returned with a 12” butcher knife and held it against her stomach, stating, “I’m going to kill you”. She then begged for her life and suspect left location, taking her vehicle. The victim suffered from two deep one inch lacerations on her head, one and one-half inch laceration on the forehead, one inch laceration on the nose, multiple bruises and lacerations on the face and head. She was also treated for possible skull and nose fracture and cerebral concussion, and was admitted to General Hospital. ===================================================== CASE #32 3-11-67 File # Y 374 381 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Marijuana seeds and debris ; One marijuana cigarette DETAILS: A suspect living with prostitute was arrested for burglary. A search of his apartment revealed large amounts of money and several stolen items. His girlfriend, while sitting on the couch, asked to smoke. She fumbled nervously with her cigarette package and investigating officers found a marijuana cigarette in the cigarette package. ===================================================== CASE #33 3-12-67 File # Y 375 532 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Three partially smoked marijuana cigarettes ; Three Socoral capsules DETAILS: Two suspects offered a 17 year old girl a ride home. They drove to an apartment, forcing her from the car at gun point, took her inside where four other suspects were waiting. She was physically attacked by three suspects, told to get dressed and leave the apartment. After the suspects had been arrested, marijuana and dangerous drugs were found in the bedroom in which the rape had occurred. ===================================================== CASE #34 3-30-67 File # Y 382 527 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette DETAILS: Unknown burglars stole a $640 color television set. Found on the floor at point of entry was a marijuana cigarette. ===================================================== CASE # 35 4-5-67 File # Y 385 190 SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana DETAILS: ' At 11:00 P.M. two boys, one 17 years old and one 19 years old, committed a burglary and were seen walking out the front door of a school each carrying a typewriter. The 19 year old boy had one ounce of marijuana in his coat pocket. ===================================================== CASE # 36 4-22-67 File # Y 391 867 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Four marijuana cigarettes DETAILS: Two male suspects, one 16 and one 19 year old, in a vehicle, pulled along side another vehicle containing one male occupant, and fired three gun shots directly at him. All three bullets hit the door of the vehicle. When arrested, four marijuana cigarettes were found in the shirt pocket of the 19 year old. When found, he stated, “I knew you would find them.” ===================================================== CASE #37 4-23-67 File # Y 391 946 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette ; Two partially smoked marijuana cigarettes ; Six Nembutal Capsules DETAILS: A 19 year old suspect and three subjects, two 14 and one 15 years old, were driving in a vehicle, smoking marijuana. Upon seeing the police, they put out the marijuana cigarette and threw the dangerous drugs out the, window. A search of the vehicle revealed the ,marijuana cigarette in the car. They later admitted to a burglary of vending machines at a gas station, just prior to being stopped by the police. ===================================================== CASE #38 5-2-67 File # Y 394 790 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One and one half ounces of marijuana ; Toy gun; Switchblade knife DETAILS: Four adults and four Juveniles were arrested in possession of the above evidence. Two of the male adults and one male juvenile had previously held up a supermarket and obtained $1200.00. Two grams of marijuana were found in the vehicle of one of the robbers and an additional ounce of marijuana found in his home when arrested. ===================================================== CASE # 39 5-4-67 File # Y 395 714 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana ; Package of Zig Zag papers DETAILS: A middle-aged lady was seated on a park bench when two boys forcibly snatched her purse and ran. One of the youths, when apprehended by Sheriff’s Deputies, was found to have one ounce of marijuana in his pocket. ===================================================== CASE # 40 5-4-67 File # Y 091 190 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana ; Fifteen amphetamine tablets ; One 22 caliber revolver DETAILS: Two old friends, standing on the street talking, became involved in a heated argument. One of the parties suddenly pulled a gun and shot the other in the stomach. A search of the victim’s vehicle disclosed the marijuana, amphetamine, and the revolver, along with a box of 22 caliber ammunition. ===================================================== CASE #41 5-4-67 File # Y 395 723 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Two ounces of marijuana One Bowie knife DETAILS: Sheriff’s Deputies, while investigating a report of a man with a gun, were suddenly attacked by the suspect as they attempted to take him in to custody. The suspect was finally subdued and it was determined that he had two ounces of marijuana in his possession, in addition to a Bowie knife; the gun was not found. ===================================================== CASE #42 5-9-67 File # Y 396 812 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One opium pipe, containing burnt marijuana debris ; One librium capsule DETAILS: Sheriff's Deputies, while on routine patrol, observed a suspect driving in an erratic manner. When he failed to stop for a red traffic light, Deputies attempted to pull him over, using red lights and siren. Instead of stopping, suspect accelerated the vehicle to speeds in excess of 90 miles per hour, and he deliberately aimed his vehicle at another car, forcing it to the curb. Suspect finally abandoned his vehicle, after striking three other cars. When apprehended, his vehicle was found to contain the opium pipe with the marijuana debris; the librium capsule was found on his person. ===================================================== CASE #43 5-10-67 File # Y 397 686 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana DETAILS: Sheriff’s Deputies received a report of a suspicious man loitering near an apartment building. When the officers arrived they observed suspect to be under the influence of an [unknown] drug. The marijuana was found in suspect’s pocket, after he was arrested for intoxication. When questioned about the marijuana found in his possession, suspect replied, “That’s pot, Man. I steal, rob, or anything to get all of the pot I want.” Suspect also stated, “I wish I had your gun, I’d go pull a stick-up right now.” ===================================================== CASE #44 5-14-67 File # Y 399 910 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Seven cartons of cigarettes ; One 22 caliber rifle (loaded) ; One 22 caliber revolver (loaded) ; One partially smoked marijuana cigarette ; One yellow Nembutal capsule DETAILS: Officers stopped a vehicle after observing a bullet hole in the windshield. While questioning the two occupants, the officers observed what appeared to be a marijuana cigarette lying on the seat. The occupants were arrested, and during the subsequent search of the vehicle, the rifle and cigarettes (property taken in a recent robbery) were recovered. During the booking procedure, the 17 year old girl was found to have the loaded revolver, as well as the Nembutal capsule, on her person. ===================================================== CASE #45 5-15-67 File # Y 400 212 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One ounce of marijuana ; One 32 caliber automatic pistol DETAILS: A husband became angry because his wife and son used the family care without his permission. He stated to them, “You’re not happy anymore, this is as good a time as any to shoot you all”. Suspect then went to his bedroom and got a gun and shot his wife in the hip, and his son in the stomach. The marijuana was found in suspect’s bedroom on top of his dresser. ===================================================== CASE #46 5-31-67 File # Y 406 519 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One .30 caliber rifle ; Four spent .30 caliber casings ; Forty-six .30 caliber bullets ; One-quarter ounce marijuana DETAILS: Deputies investigating gunshots in a residential area were led to a location by a hysterical citizen. It was necessary for the deputies to break into the apartment and find four males, ages 26- 32. They admitted firing the gun four times at a flagpole, 400 feet away. Marijuana was found floating in the toilet. ===================================================== CASE #47 6-12-67 File # Y 411 361 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette DETAILS: Two male suspects committed an armed robbery of a grocery store clerk. A short time later they were apprehended. During booking procedures a marijuana cigarette was found in the shirt pocket of one of the suspects. ===================================================== CASE #48 6-15-67 File # Y 412 403 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One loaded .22 caliber revolver ; Four ounces of marijuana ; Two marijuana cigarettes ; Three partially smoked marijuana cigarettes ; Cigarette papers ; One nylon stocking mask DETAILS: Two known marijuana users arrested for a series of robberies. At the location of their arrest the above held evidence was recovered. ===================================================== CASE # 49 6-17-67 File # Y 412 671 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Nine marijuana cigarettes Two yellow road barricades DETAILS: Two adults and three juveniles beat another male with road barricades, then while he was down, kicked him. They were arrested and one of the adults had nine marijuana cigarettes and marijuana debris in his Jacket. The victim suffered a severe head concussion. Twelve sutures were required to close the head wound. ===================================================== CASE #I50 7-2-67 File # Y 418 743 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One loaded .38 caliber revolver ; Three .38 caliber bullets ; Two spent .38 caliber casings ; One partially smoked marijuana cigarette ; One bottle of beer DETAILS: A vehicle with three male occupants was stopped for a traffic violation. Just prior to stopping, one male was observed to bend forward and place something under the front seat. As Deputies approached the stopped vehicle they observed an opened bottle of beer. While looking into the vehicle they observed the butt of a gun protruding from under the front seat. Investigation revealed that the gun was loaded with three live rounds and two spent rounds. The marijuana cigarette was found in the pocket of one of the suspects. ===================================================== CASE #51 7-12-67 File # Y 422 641 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette ; Marijuana debris DETAILS: Officers attempted to arrest an 18 year old boy for disorderly conduct. At the same time, two 17 year old boys were observed pushing the suspect's automobile. Investigation revealed the marijuana debris in the car. After their arrest, the two juveniles began struggling with the officers. Two officers were injured and one of the suspects escaped. During booking a marijuana cigarette was found in the pocket of one of the juveniles. ===================================================== CASE #52 7-12-67 File # Y 422 646 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Three marijuana cigarettes ; One ounce of marijuana ; Marijuana debris DETAILS: Officers arrested eleven persons aged 17-23 for possession of marijuana. At the Sheriff's Station one of them attempted to incite the others and caused a disturbance. As Officers separated him from the crowd, he resisted and kicked one of the Officers in the groin. ===================================================== CASE #53 7-15-67 File # Y 422 810 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Small bag containing marijuana Zig Zag cigarette papers One 4” pocket knife DETAILS: Suspect observed to steal a motorcycle from a yard. When pursued by the victim, the suspect was seen waving a knife in a threatening manner. When the police arrived they also observed him in the roadway brandishing a knife. Further investigation revealed he was intoxicated, but lacked the odor of alcohol. He was arrested and a search of his person revealed marijuana and cigarette papers used for smoking marijuana. When asked about the marijuana he stated that it was his. Suspect was very irrational and emotional, changing from a threatening manner to a sympathetic mood. ===================================================== CASE #54 7-18-67 File # Y 425 547 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Approximately four pounds of marijuana ; Two guns and bullets for each DETAILS: Sheriff's Deputies and Los Angeles Police Department Investigators working together on a burglary investigation arrested four suspects in possession of four pounds of marijuana and two guns. The victim of the burglary who was with Police identified the suspects and several other items belonging to him that were taken in the burglary. It was also determined the 1966 Buick Rivera suspects were driving was a stolen vehicle. ===================================================== CASE #55 7-24-67 File # Y 428 061 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Two marijuana cigarettes ; Two amphetamine tablets DETAILS: Deputies investigating a prowler call observed suspect seated in a vehicle. As the officers approached, he placed something under the seat. Investigation revealed the two amphetamine tablets and marijuana cigarettes. Found nearby was a woman's purse taken in a robbery which occurred three weeks prior. ===================================================== CASE #56 7-31-67 File # Y 430 361 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette ; DETAILS: Four suspects were arrested in connection with an $80.00 gas station robbery. While being booked, a marijuana cigarette was found in the wallet of one suspect. ===================================================== CASE #57 8-2-67 File # Y 431 394 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Eight, marijuana cigarettes ; One ounce of marijuana One loaded .32 caliber automatic revolver One 17” bayonet DETAILS: A vehicle containing three suspects was stopped for traffic violations. Officers observed marijuana lying on the rear floor of the vehicle. Further investigation revealed more marijuana, and a loaded gun. Later it was ascertained that the suspects and vehicle had been involved in a robbery. ===================================================== CASE #58 8-4-67 File # Y 432 794 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Three guns Three marijuana cigarettes ; Seven ounces of marijuana ; Four pounds of marijuana ; Sixteen amphetamine sulphate tablets DETAILS: Sheriff's Narcotic Officers purchased marijuana from a 17 year old female on three occasions. On the third occasion a large amount of marijuana was purchased and the juvenile and two other male suspects were arrested. In order to effect this arrest, it was necessary to fire eight shots at the suspect's vehicle, after the officers had properly identified themselves. Suspect driving his vehicle recklessly, using it as a weapon, ran into and knocked down one officer, and narrowly missed others. One suspect became combative, -while attempting to transport him to the police station. Further investigation and search of their homes revealed more marijuana, guns, and other items that could not be accounted for. ===================================================== CASE# 59 8-4-67 File # Y 432 504 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Piece of wood 1” x 2” x 8” ; One 4” knife ; One marijuana cigarette ; One partially smoked marijuana cigarette ; Five Seconal capsules ; Seven Nembutal capsules DETAILS: Deputies observed two suspects fighting. One using a knife the other a piece of wood. Both were arrested on assault charges. During booking procedures, marijuana and dangerous drugs were found on one of the suspects. ===================================================== CASE # 60 8-4-67 File # Y 432 378 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One .22 caliber revolver ; One spent .22 caliber shell ; Eight rounds .22 caliber bullets ; Five marijuana cigarettes DETAILS: Officers observed three males seated in a vehicle, which was parked next to a bar. Investigation revealed the gun under the front seat. The marijuana cigarettes were found in the pocket of one of the suspects. ===================================================== CASE # 61 8-12-67 File # Y 436 512 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette Zig Zag cigarette papers DETAILS: Three male juveniles approached a woman, surrounded her, and one of them said, "I want your money." When she told them she didn't have any, one of them twisted her watch from her arm. Later that day, two of them were found intoxicated and arrested. During booking procedures, a marijuana cigarette was found in the pocket of one of the juveniles. ===================================================== CASE # 62 8-14-67 File # Y 436 764 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One-half ounce of marijuana ; One marijuana cigarette ; Marijuana debris DETAILS: A suspect driving a vehicle approximately 5 miles per hour, 3:50 AM, in a business area. Deputies noticed the vehicle to be weaving from lane to lane. Further investigation revealed suspect in possession of marijuana. 'When arrested, suspect pushed, kicked, and bit Deputies...until subdued. ===================================================== CASE #63 8-22-67 File # Y 439 700 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Approximately one ounce of marijuana ; One gun with ammunition. DETAILS: Suspect's wife reported to police that her husband had beat their 4 year old son. She also said her husband was under the influence of narcotics. Investigating officers observed the son to have a swollen lip and bloody nose. The suspect was released from State Prison about a year before on narcotics charges. A search of the location revealed marijuana and a gun among the suspect's belongings. ===================================================== CASE #64 8-26-67 File # Y 441 220 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette DETAILS: A private patrolman, checking business buildings, observed two suspects, one of them appeared to be sick. When he approached them, he was severely beaten. He suffered a broken nose, numerous bruises, contusions, and a possible skull fracture. During the altercation, victim fired his gun in the air wildly six times as the suspects attempted to take the gun. During booking procedures, a marijuana cigarette was found in one of the suspects pants pocket. ===================================================== CASE # 65 8-31-67 File # Y 443 819 EVIDENCE SEIZED: Two marijuana cigarettes DETAILS: Two suspects were driving a vehicle 100 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone. Officers gave chase and stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver for reckless driving. The passenger in the vehicle objected to driver's arrest, and began physically interfering. One Deputy was slugged by the driver. He was subsequently arrested. During booking procedures two marijuana cigarettes were found in suspect's wallet. ===================================================== CASE # 66 9-4-67 File # Y 444 731 EVIDENCE SEIZED: One marijuana cigarette Marijuana debris DETAILS: Two boys, ages 17 and 18, snatched a purse from a 52 year old woman.
