ACCORDING TO THE INTERNET AUCTIONEER:

1913 GREAT AM HERB Marijuana Med & MAIL OFFER
ITEM:   Complete Direct Mail offer from "The Great American Herb Company" Includes ad for Corn Remover containing marijuana!

AGE: Dated April 15, 1913
CONDITION: Very nice!   The package was stored in the original envelope, which has discolored and was used for math problems.   All of the other items are in great condition.   The back of the cover letter also has a bit of math in the blank area.   The Special Offer sheet has some discoloration on the bottom third.   The brochure is in excellent condition.

SIZE: Cover Letter:  8 1/2 x 11 inches. BROCHURE:6 x 9 inches; 4 pages. SPECIAL OFFER: 5 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches.

The Great American Herb Company sent this direct mail offer to a general store owner in rural North Carolina.   He had inquired about carrying their products...

MAILING ENVELOPE
This has a superb cachet decoration of an Indian in a fur and feather headdress!   The company name is in impressive script lettering.   One end is torn off... that's how it was opened.

COVER LETTER
This also has an impressive letterhead! Printed in red ink, it has either faded or was poorly printed.   The same image and lettering is repeated on the letter as is on the envelope.   The letter is following up on the grocer's inquiry, urging him to try a sample and give some he should have no problems getting orders! (Especially if they were smoking the Corn Plasters! More on THAT later.)   The letter is also an offer for him to be the exclusive agent for American Herbs in the area.

SPECIAL OFFER
This is actually a combination order blank and agent agreement!   At the top is a notice of a price reduction... because the Post Office now has parcel post rates! (might be the only price reduction due to postal rates ever!)   The agreement was very generous: They would send a 6 or 12 box order of Indian Herbs and American Corn Remover... AT NO COST! All the grocer had to do was pay the freight; promise to try to sell the medicine, and promise not to sell it on credit unless he was willing to pay the total himself.   After he paid the order cost, the remainder of the profit was his commission!

INDIAN HERBS BROCHURE
This is a great 4 page brochure!   The front advertises Indian Herbs, the Great Spring Medicine!   Blood Purifier and Liver Regulator!   Inside are two pages of testimonials and endorsements by users! (In the early 1900s, these were considered one of the best recommendations!)   Yes, folks!   Get your Wigwam Clipper Indian Herbs today!   Banish Rheumatism!   Chills and Fever!   Skin Diseases!   Constipation! Indigestion!   Calm Your Nerves!

AMERICAN CORN REMOVER, WITH 5% CANNABIS INDICIA
The fancy words for marijuana, weed, dope.   American Corn Remover is advertised on the back page of the brochure.   The package is pictured.   Now, stay with me on this one.   On the package is a PIG, standing in a corn field and munching on the corn stalks!!!   (OK, was the artist chewing a Corn Remover?)   The corn remover was advertised as non scalding and easy to remove.

That about sums it up.  You also get the return mail envelope, which is preprinted with the potential agent's name and offer number as the return address.
